Bar Planning Tips

Disney's most celebrated bars require strategy. Here's everything you need to know to make sure you get in, get the right drink, and have the experience you came for.

Oga's Cantina: Reservation Strategy

Oga's Cantina is the hardest reservation at Disney World — full stop. Reservations open exactly 60 days in advance at 6:00 AM Eastern Time, and availability often disappears within the first 10 minutes. Set an alarm for 5:55 AM on your 60-day mark, log into My Disney Experience, and have your party size and preferred time ready to go before the clock hits 6:00. Book the first slot of the day (usually 9:00 or 10:00 AM) — it's the most reliable time to get in. If you miss reservations, check back obsessively in the days leading up to your trip; cancellations do appear. Walk-up availability exists but is extremely limited — typically only during the last hour before park closing.

Pro tip: Book one slot per day of your trip if you can — cancellation is free up to 2 hours before your reservation time.

La Cava del Tequila: Beating the Wait

La Cava does not take reservations — which means timing is everything. The bar typically opens with EPCOT at 11:00 AM, and the first 30–45 minutes after opening have the shortest waits. Alternatively, arrive right at EPCOT's evening extra hours (if you have resort hotel access) or join the virtual queue via the My Disney Experience app if available. Midday on weekdays is also relatively reasonable. Avoid weekend afternoons and any EPCOT festival weekends — waits routinely exceed 90 minutes during peak periods. The bar is small; capacity fills up quickly. Have a backup plan (Tutto Gusto or Rose & Crown) for days when La Cava is overwhelmed.

Pro tip: The Mexico Pavilion opens even when the park is at capacity — La Cava is accessible via the international gateway entrance near EPCOT's World Showcase side.

Trader Sam's: Arrive at Opening

Trader Sam's Grog Grotto is the single most in-demand walk-up bar experience at Walt Disney World — and there are absolutely no reservations. The only reliable strategy is to arrive when the bar opens (typically 4:00 PM on most days — confirm via the Polynesian Resort's schedule). Arriving 15–30 minutes before opening and joining the line that forms outside is the surest path to entry. On busy days, the wait can be 2–3 hours or longer. The outdoor tiki bar adjacent to Trader Sam's (HangaR Bar) serves as an excellent holding spot while you wait, and the same drinks are available outside. Weekday evenings are considerably more manageable than weekend evenings.

Pro tip: Disney resort hotel guests can take the monorail or boat directly to the Polynesian — no car or rideshare needed. Factor travel time into your arrival plan.

Resort Bar Hopping Routes

One of the most underrated Disney experiences is a resort bar hop — moving between hotels via Disney's free boat and monorail transportation system without ever setting foot in a park. The Magic Kingdom monorail loop connects the Grand Floridian (Enchanted Rose), Polynesian (Trader Sam's, Tambu Lounge), and Contemporary in roughly 20 minutes. The EPCOT resort boat connects the BoardWalk (Abracadabar), Yacht Club (Ale & Compass), and Beach Club in a single route. For a wilderness evening, Wilderness Lodge (Territory Lounge, Geyser Point) and Fort Wilderness are connected by boat. A good rule: aim for 1–2 drinks per stop maximum so you can make the full circuit comfortably in an evening.

Pro tip: The resort bar hop is open to everyone — you do not need to be a resort guest to visit resort bars and restaurants. Just arrive by Disney transportation or park at the resort for a few hours.
